Everything You Need to Know About Waxing

Have you hummed and hawed over getting waxed?

We get it. It might seem a little intimidatingespecially since people often like to joke around about how painful it is... but you should not be scared of waxing! It ISN’T torture.

Don’t get us wrong; waxing isn’t going to feel GOOD. But when you see a professional Thair, your waxing experience will be quick, easy, and not as painful as you might have thought!

What to Expect from Your First Wax

If you’ve never had a wax before, you might feel a little nervous heading into Thair. We understand! But don’t worry, everything will be fine.

Depending on the area you’re having waxed, you may feel a bit self-conscious your first time. Don’t hesitate to mention this to your waxer—it can actually make you feel better! Also, if the waxer knows that it’s your first time, they’ll be able to guide you through the process and tell you exactly what to expect.

We’re NOT going to sugarcoat this: waxing can hurt, especially if you’ve never had it done before. When you don’t know what to expect, the sensation of having hair pulled from your body can be a shock. But once you’ve had it done a few times, the pain usually dramatically decreases. To ensure maximum comfort, we recommend not going for an extensive procedure like a Brazilian your first time. Instead, try something a little less comprehensive, like a bikini wax.

You also don’t need to wait until your hair is super long to wax it; the hair only needs to be a quarter of an inch in length to remove all of it. Generally, it’s better not to wait too long to wax, as it’s less painful the closer the hair is to the skin.

Waxing Myths

When it comes to waxing, there are a LOT of myths out there. Let’s just cover some of the most common:

Your Hair Will Grow Back Thicker: This is false. Yes, waxing can change your body hair, but rather than growing back thicker, it can become softer for some people.

Waxing Prevents Ingrown Hairs: This is false. While waxing will likely produce fewer ingrown hairs than shaving, whether you get ingrown hairs depends on how often you exfoliate and how prone you are to ingrown hairs.

Waxing Hurts: This is mostly true. Look, waxing isn’t going to be as relaxing as one of our massages, but it doesn’t need to be torture. When you have a professional doing your wax, they’ll pay close attention to your comfort level, making sure to take precautions to protect your skin whenever possible.

At-Home Waxing Is Just as Effective: This is false. While waxing at home can remove unwanted hair, your results won’t be equal to the results a professional waxer can deliver. The same rule also applies when it comes to at-home haircare treatments versus in-salon haircare treatments. In other words, always let a pro take care of it!

What We Offer At Thair

Waxing is an incredibly versatile hair removal treatment that can work for just about anywhere on the body.

At Thair, we always use organic ingredients in all of our procedures, and that includes waxing. The benefits of using organic wax are that 1) it will cause less skin irritation and 2) it won’t leach any chemicals into your skin. The last thing you want is hot wax being spread on your skin if you don’t know what’s in it—no thanks!

We offer almost 30 different waxing hair removal procedures, so we’re just going to mention a few here!

Bikini Wax - A classic procedure that removes unwanted hair around your bikini line to reveal silky, smooth skin. Your results usually last about one month.

Brazilian Wax - Here, all of the hair is removed “down there”. We use a very gentle wax to reduce irritation and redness. Results will last about 4-6 weeks.

Chest Wax - These are popular with many men. At Thair, we use organic wax to remove excess chest hair. This is a very safe and effective procedure.

Leg Wax - We offer full and half leg waxes for both men and women. This will leave your legs feeling soft and smooth for up to six weeks. Just think, no more shaving!

Different Types of Wax

Various types of wax can be used, depending on the procedure. Keep in mind that at Thair, all of our waxes are organic!

Soft wax - Basic traditional strip waxing that gets rid of fine hair strands.

Hard wax - Generally used for small areas. This wax only binds to the hair and never to the skin.

Sugar wax - Made with all-natural ingredients, including sugar, lemon, and hot water.

If you’re curious about the types of wax that we use at Thair, please ask. We’re always happy to answer your questions!

How Long Do Results Last?

Depending on the exact procedure, your results can last different lengths of time.

Hair doesn’t grow at the same rate everywhere on the body. For example, facial hair on men can grow significantly faster than body hair. On top of that, hair growth can vary from person to person. That’s why one person could have five o’clock shadow at two in the afternoon, and another person could look clean-shaven for days. Plus, darker hair is more visible than light hair. If your body hair is blonde, your results will likely seem like they last longer than they would if you had dark hair.

With all of this in mind, it’s impossible to give a 100% accurate answer about how long your results will last. As we said, it can take between 4 to 6 weeks for the hair to regenerate and grow again. Keep in mind that the more often you get waxed, the less painful it will be. Once you’ve been to Thair for your first wax, we can begin to determine how often you need to come in. Eventually, this will allow you to book regular appointments as needed!

If you haven’t been professionally waxed in a few months, your skin might be a little more sensitive than usual. That’s why you should leave it in the hands of the professionals! At Thair Hair Boutique & Spa, we can give you the gentlest wax possible, with all-natural ingredients to protect your skin and ensure maximum comfort. We can’t wait to see you!
