Why We Exclusively Use Organic Colour Systems for Hair Colouring

Do you worry about how chemicals can affect the health of your hair and scalp?

So many hair colouring methods use harsh chemicals to provide results, such as ammonia. If you have a stylist who knows what they’re doing, you might get results that look good... but looks can be deceiving. There can be some significant drawbacks to using chemicals for hair colouring. For example, chemical hair dyes can severely damage your hair, leading to dryness and even breakages. And if you have sensitive skin, you might end up with a dry, flaky scalp.

At Thair, we use Organic Colour Systems to provide you with the vibrant, colourful results you’re looking for, while also maintaining your hair health. Here’s the lowdown:

No Harsh Chemicals

Chemicals like peroxide, resorcinol, and ammonia are common in most commercial hair dyes. These are ingredients you want to avoid.

First off, they stinkliterally. If you’re in a salon that uses any of these chemicals, you better hope there’s proper air ventilation! Many people also have allergies to these smells, resulting in runny noses, itchy eyes, and in some cases, even skin hives. Yikes!

Second, these chemicals can badly damage your hair. Chemical dyes commonly use ammonia to penetrate your hair cuticle and allow the colour to penetrate. This can severely damage every hair strand, leaving you with dry and unhealthy hair. This is why many people end up with breakages and brittle ends just a few days after a colour treatment. While hydrating products can help mitigate some of the damage, there’s only so much they can do.

At Thair, we exclusively use Organic Colour Systems to deliver your new hair colour. These products are extraordinarily gentle on both your skin and your hair. All of the ingredients are certified organic, and while there are some chemicals in these natural dyes, they have been confirmed not to cause any real hair or skin damage. Even better, certain natural and organic products can actually nourish your locks! Imagine getting the colour you want while also maintaining the strength and beauty of your hairwin-win!

Beautiful Organic Results

We get so many calls every week asking us if our Organic Colour System delivers results as effective as chemical treatments. And our answer to that is that organic colouring works just as well if not better than chemical dyes.

There’s a mistaken perception that you can’t achieve nice blondes with Organic Colour Systems. Fortunately, this isn’t the case. Yes, that’s right, you can go blonde and have as much fun as you want with just as bright and beautiful a hair colour as you’d get using chemical dyes!

Another question; does it cover grey? It sure does, and it does not “wash out”. The colour covers grey, and often the results are a soft coverage, meaning that as it grows out there’s no harsh line of demarcation, resulting in a softer blend.

What’s In It?

As Organic Colour Systems doesn’t use ammonia, parabens, or resorcinolthe most common ingredients in hair dyesyou might be wondering... what’s in it?

Replacing the ammonia is naturally-derived PEG-2 soyamine. It gently softens and opens the cuticle at a much lower pH than ammonia does. This avoids the damage caused by ammonia while also allowing the colour to penetrate. Heat is also used to soften and open the cuticle, in a safe and natural way, allowing the colour molecule to deposit.

Unlike chemical dyes that hurt your hair, Organic Colour Systems includes several ingredients that protect it! For example, comfrey helps to detangle your hair and adds shine. Aloe vera moisturizes and soothes your scalp. To assist with colour retention, orange and grapefruit have been added to the mix. Finally, gluten-free wheat protein has been added to both protect and improve the softness of your hair.

Even More Benefits!

Outside of your hair health and colour, there are even more benefits to using organic colouring.

Unlike some chemical dyes, the Organic Colour System is entirely cruelty-free with no animal testing for any of the products. These products are even vegan!

Because we’re using organic hair dye, the smell of ammonia isn’t going to settle across the entire salon. This makes our salon a much more pleasant environment to get your hair done. And on top of all this, these dyes are biodegradable. Heck, even the packaging is fully recyclable!

Maintaining Your Colour

Organic hair colouring can last just as long as the chemical equivalents, but you should take some steps to make sure that your colour remains as vibrant for a long as possible.

We recommend not washing your hair every day, as that may result in your colour fading. If you have hair that’s on the oilier side, consider using a dry shampoo. When you do wash your hair, avoid hot water as it can remove essential oils and moisture from your hair.

Finally, if you can avoid it, try not to use heat treatments like blow-drying or straightening. Not only do heat treatments cause your colour to fade, but they can also damage your overall hair health (especially if you have curly hair).

If it’s been a while since you last coloured your hair, this might be the perfect opportunity to try a brand-new colour! Or if you’d like to go back to a former style, that could be a great idea too. Either way, we’d be delighted to help. At Thair Hair Boutique & Spa, we'll have your hair looking its absolute best in no time. We also have a new online beauty shop! Don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
